When you're a kid and it's your birthday, the world certainly is your oyster.

We celebrated our very own little mermaid's 7th birthday with a "SEVEN Seas Lagoon" party this past weekend. Although we social distanced with Covid in mind and kept the party small, that didn't stop us from having some mer-mazing fun on Simonton Lake.

Cup of Lovely's newest design assistant and birthday girl Bennett took matters into her own fins and brainstormed ideas for the event all year long. Come party day she dove right in alongside mommy, setting out decorations including her own original work and scattering seashells.

The party included a themed buffet spread of oyster pearl cookies, goldfish bar, kelp (grapes), PB & jellyfish sandwiches, seaweed dip (spinach & artichoke dip), macaroni and seashells, ocean water (cotton candy pop), colorful cupcakes, and a fin-tastic mermaid cake filled with waves of purple, pink, and turquoise.
Activities included cracking open a real oyster to find a shiny white pearl, painting seashells, making seashell bracelets and a mermaid scavenger hunt. Rhyming clues led the kids from bottle to bottle throughout the yard and down the pier, resulting in a treasure trove of mermaid loot at the end. Swimming and tubing were also a big hit. : )
An ocean backdrop provided the perfect photo op for mermaids and mermen.
